A budget you'll actually want to keep

A realistic plan for the month—not another impossible set of rules.

Financial papers and budgeting materials on a desk

The most useful budget is the one that works on an ordinary Tuesday, not just the one that looks neat when you first create it.

01. Protect the essentials

Start with rent, utilities, transport and groceries. Give the predictable parts of your month a place before setting flexible spending targets.

Use your recent spending to set initial amounts. Numbers based on real life are easier to work with.

02. Leave some breathing space

Set aside room for the unexpected. A plan with no flexibility can feel impossible to maintain when a small expense appears.

If a category runs high, adjust your plan instead of abandoning it.

03. Check in once a week

Compare what you have spent with what remains, then make small changes before the month ends.

Montra budgets let you see category progress and remaining amounts without starting your review from scratch.
